The Zambian AIDS/HIV Mission (ZAHM) is a project funded and organized by the Canadian-based organization, Canada Cares. This website is available in 4 languages and has over 17 pages in each dialect designed to provide up-to-date and reliable information to the people of Zambia about the essential facts and information needed to know about AIDS/HIV. In addition, this site built to hope provide awareness to the various cities and villages in Zambia.

What is AIDS/HIV?

Just to give a brief introduction to AIDS/HIV first. AIDS stands for Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome and HIV stands for Human Immuno-deficiency Virus. To dinstinguish between AIDS and HIV, it is essential to acknowledge that HIV is the virus that causes people to have AIDS.

It is also important to know that if a person has HIV, it does not necessarily mean that the person has AIDS also. A physici,ban must go through a series of tests to determine whether the person has any of the AIDS indicator illnesses defined by the CDC (Centre for Disease Control & Prevention). Unfortunately, a person cannot even determine whether or not they are infected with HIV or not because it has been reported by physicians that patients cannot rely on the symptoms to tell.
